Hemingway had an opportunity to read his own obituary, not once but twice. This New York paper (dated Jan. 1954) was one such time. He survived a crash during a flight in a small plane while flying in Africa with his 4th wife Mary.
“On the journey from Nairobi to Bukavo (Congo), he and Mary had several emergency landings in the small airplane together with the pilot Roy Marsh. They had two(!) serious crashes near Entebbe in Uganda. They were alive, but wounded after the plane disappeared in flames.”
