While walking the streets of Manhattan this past Easter Sunday I came across a man selling some old books and asked if he had any old copies of Ernest Hemingway – he said yes and pulled out a copy of For Whom The Bell Tolls and Green Hills of Africa. The first title was a 1st Edition (A) published in the U.S in 1940 by Charles Scribner’s Sons and was dedicated to Hemingway’s third wife Martha Gellhorn. I ended up buying the 471 page novel. If anyone has any information on this particular first edition – please let me know. I’m trying to find out how many were printed etc.. Thank you!
